Ever after for me, was the day the poet Shel Silverstein beguiled me in 3rd grade. Following by example I spent my childhood mimicking his poetic tales - finding inspiration in experience through curious rhymes and black-comedy tales I found a voice for the first time.
I had a rough childhood but I am the grandaughter of Lena Roze. A tough, kind, Tennessee woman who was my home and my light. My grandfather, Everett, was an ever patient man. A warm smile in chaos. For this reason, I took the pen name Everette Roze -a constant reminder of the kind of person I dare to be. I am known by my closest family and friends as Everette.
I have always been a writer. Telling stories to my peers before I could read. Music freed me at a very young age. I felt closer to God through music. That saved me. Lifted me. Writing felt like destiny even as a child.
In college I wrote films and music for a professional studio. A producer - in - training heard me singing the melody for an artist and told me I needed to be singing my own songs - not selling them. I prayed on it and god answered. We started our own studio after graduating and I started singing my own music. becoming obsessed with the studio and late night jam sessions and learning to sing in front of an audience. I continued to write scripts for money but most mornings arrived without shut eye as I stayed on the mic or lost in the story that had consumed me mind body and soul - Haraland.
As we began recording our first album - a shift happened in my life. I met my husband the Hunter King. I fell like alice and two babies later I am back in the studio finishing the biggest project of my life.
My motto:
Freedom, over a paycheck. This was a trait instilled by my father - the most generous man i know.
First live performance:
I took off to Haiti shortly after the earthquake in 2010 to assist Dr. Without Borders and lose myself in helping others.During my time there I began writing & performing my own songs for the Haitian Community as well as the soldiers at the UN. Standing next to an abandoned plane - singing songs I wrote to a group of over-enthusiastic soldiers was my first time singing in front of a crowd.
Yet another gift from God.
All time favourite song:
"A change is gonna come" - Ottis Redding
I am certain :
the best is yet to come..
-Everette Roze
